Valarie Sheppard

Board Director, The Garibay Institute

Valarie Sheppard serves as a Board Director at The Garibay Institute for Soft Power and Public Diplomacy. She is a distinguished executive and esteemed board member with a prolific career in finance and corporate governance. Her extensive experience in high-level financial management and corporate governance, coupled with her academic credentials, establish her as a highly respected leader in the global business community. She retired from Procter & Gamble (P&G) in March 2021 after serving as Senior Vice President, Comptroller, and Treasurer. From April 2019 until her retirement, she held the position of Treasurer, Controller, and Executive Vice President, Company Transition Leader, where she directed P&G’s global Finance, Accounting, and Treasury teams. In this capacity, she was responsible for external financial reporting, financial planning, global business development, and treasury operations for the company's businesses across more than 70 countries, with annual sales exceeding $65 billion. Notably, she spearheaded the global implementation of P&G’s new organizational design, the most significant restructuring initiative the company had undertaken in 25 years.

Ms. Sheppard's expertise extends to her service on several prestigious boards. She was a board member and Director of the Main Office of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland from January 2018 to December 2021, contributing to critical discussions on monetary policy and regional economic development. Her governance roles have included board memberships at Innovative International Acquisition Corp. (October 2021 to July 2023), Sovos Brands Inc. (September 2021 to March 2024), and Anixter International, Inc. (2015 to 2020), a leading distributor of network and security solutions. Currently, she is the Lead Independent Director of Ibotta and serves on the boards of McCormick & Company, and KDC-One.

An active member of various Boards of Trustees, Ms. Sheppard dedicates her expertise to organizational oversight and strategic planning, participating in quarterly meetings that require a significant commitment of her time and insights.

Ms. Sheppard holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Industrial Administration from Purdue University (1983–1986), underscoring her strong academic foundation in business and finance.
